Beer Garden/Boat Basin

Today was one of those all American New York City days. I ventured out of New Jersey around 2:30pm and caught the bus into Manhattan then hopped on the N train to Astoria, Queens. I met up with Leslie, Bryan and their french roommate Laetitia at Studio Square. Studio Square is a newer beer garden in Astoria. This was my third time going to studio square in a month, but definitely the most packed today. Today was the first game of the World Cup, and i’ve never seen so many New Yorkers gathered in one space to watch soccer. It was pretty exciting. Everyone was decked out in red, white and blue, and I think it’s safe to say that most had started pre-gaming (early drinking) by 11am. It was wild. I was at a beer garden, yet I felt like I was at a stadium. You could hear the roar of the crowd and chants of “U.S.A” making it’s way through the rows of people. The sun was beating down, and we were all starting to sweat pretty badly, so after the game was over (USA/ENG tied) we all decided to make our way out to the boat basin for Nuala’s birthday.

The boat basin is on 79th and Riverside at Riverside Park. My coworkers took me there for drinks the week before my birthday, and I had a blast, so I definitely wasn’t gonna miss this outing. We arrived around 5:30pm after our hour trek from Queens, and the scantily clad, yet prepped out crowd was in full force. This place is right on the Hudson River with a nice view of the docked boats and New Jersey in the background. It is an outdoor restaurant/bar where owners are allowed to bring their dogs to hang. Therefore, it was the perfect place for a staff full of veterinarians, assistants and receptionists to get together for drinks. Clancey (The Great Pyranese), Roscoe (The Pug), Pebbles (The Rottweiler), and Trouble (The Yorkie) joined us in our festivities. Their was a nice breeze coming off of the water, and it finally felt like the beginning of what is going to be an amazing summer. Bucket after bucket of Red Stripe lager and great conversation is what this night consisted of. There is something to be said about hanging outside drinking beer with dogs. It changes the dynamic of partying completely. Although I own cats, when I settle down some day, I hope to be a girl who hangs outside and drinks beer surrounded by dogs and loved ones.

All and all, a good day in the city.

I haven’t posted since August, and I open my page without having to sign in? Crazy.

I want to apologize to all my tumblebuddies for leaving you for so long. Like the rest of the world, I got caught up in Facetwitland, but now realize that they don’t even come close to you. They are pretty shallow only scraping the surface of what tumbleland has to offer.

Therefore, I conclude that I am officially back. I’ve missed you.
